These crisp winter days with the sun shining high are great for a some exploring. We’ve been meaning to check the Onkaparinga River Recreation Park out for a while as we’d been tipped off that it was an accessible and family friendly trail… and it was!

1.5 km in length on a combination of compacted ground and boardwalk is music to our ears, coupled with an accessible bathroom, BBQ’s, shelter, it was just about perfect. And you can take dogs on a lead.

We started from the Main Entrance on River Road.

Not quite perfect though, there isn’t any designated parking in the car park so it was pot luck that we got a car park with enough room to get out. Also the path only goes from the car park up to shelter/BBQ’s not onto the trail, so you still need to get across a small section of grass to start the trail. One last thing, have a look at the map before you start the trail and make sure you follow the markers.

You wouldn’t want to do this after a little bit of rain as the ground looked very susceptible to getting muddy.

There are a heap of other activities and things to do and see in the recreation park, I can’t wait till the kids are a little older and we can take some canoes out!
