An Accessible Tourism Masterclass presented by Destination Melbourne drew me over the one of the world’s most liveable cities. It was fantastic to hear about some of their initiatives including Visitability – aiming to make Melbourne the World’s most visitable city. Visitable by all.

The Masterclass also added a couple of items to my bucket list;

• Dans Le Noir or dining in the dark, a complete dining experience for all your senses. Many people on the staff roster have vision impairments; “blind people are naturally more efficient in the darkness and are the best to do the job in such context. You will become blind for at least an hour and a half, and you will have to trust your server. It is a true “transfer of trust” and an amazing and positive approach to raise awareness about blindness and disability in general”.
• Moonlit Santctuary; Melbourne’s award winning wildlife park invites you to explore 10 hectares of bush-land, feeding kangaroos and wallabies, petting koalas and enjoying encounters with colourful birds, reptiles, dingoes and many other animals including endangered species, all step free! • Melbourne Cable Park; “Looking for an awesome day out with family, friends or colleagues?” Um…yes…and after talking to the owner it was fantastic to hear their plans are well under way to implement an accessible experience, with a modified boat and sit ski. So watch this space.

It was great to speak with the change makers in accessible tourism at the workshop and am really excited about the near future of the industry!
