This year, South Australia is the first state to introduce an ‘EXCELLENCE IN ACCESSIBLE TOURISM’ category in the state awards program, open to South Australian tourism businesses or attractions delivering tourism products or services that are welcoming for people of all abilities. Entrants must demonstrate how they have developed a tourism experience to become more accessible.

The South Australian Tourism Awards are presented by the South Australian Tourism Industry Council and proudly supported by the South Australian Tourism Commission. Now in its 34th year the Awards celebrate and acknowledge tourism businesses that have demonstrated outstanding achievements and success throughout the year.

The South Australian Tourism Awards aim to:

• Publicly recognise and reward excellence in our tourism industry
• Encourage and celebrate creativity, professionalism and innovation
• Promote business planning and development amongst tourism operators
• Provide a benchmark for best practice within our tourism industry
• Encourage the continual raising of standards among tourism operators in South Australia
• Reinforce the value of the tourism industry
• Strengthen consumer confidence in the tourism industry
• Promote an annual platform of celebration for the industry and offer networking opportunities for operators, supporters and sponsors alike
• Provide an opportunity for successful entrants to progress to the Australian Tourism Awards and compete on a national level
• The South Australian Tourism Awards form part of the Australian Tourism Awards enabling our top South Australian tourism products and experiences to attain national recognition.

We are so excited about this award helping to build awareness around accessible tourism and shining a light on those businesses across the state who cater for all. What we’d love to see in the near future is for the award to be implemented Nationally, really raising the bar in accessible facilities and experiences.
