Wow! What an incredible year! We are finally coming up for a breath after a huge year of working towards our goal of improving the tourism experience for people of all physical abilities.
The year started off with jumping in the deep end and delivering our first ever presentation on Inclusive Tourism 101 to a group of dedicated tourism professionals. We chose Adelaide Oval as the venue as leader in the space of understanding the needs of people with access requirements. This presentation also led us to an invitation to present to the Minister for Tourism, Leon Bignell and the then Minister for Disabilities, Leesa Vlahos.
Undertaking a host of regional visits working with individual tourism providers to improve their accessible experiences took us all over the state from the Flinders Ranges and the Yorke Peninsula, across to the Adelaide Hills and the Limestone Coast, down to the Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island and a few places in between. Finding some gems like the Ridgetop Retreat in Deep Creek were among the highlights!
The momentum we saw in 2017 also attracted the skills and interest of friend, and now business partner Linda Anderson, enabling us to have an even bigger impact on the Inclusive Tourism Industry and seeing our business to grow from strength to strength.
Together we delivered a host of other presentations and projects and went on to win the Social Enterprise category at The University of Adelaide eChallenge Program, with a concept to build an accessible travel planning platform; The Good Scout Travel Co – to be launched late January 2018. The platform will host verified accessible tourism experiences and provide much needed choice and confidence for travellers to be able to book their next trip with ease.
We also featured in The Advertiser’s Smart SA Visitor Economy Liftout in November 2017, New thinking breaks down barriers for travellers (scroll part way down the page).
We are also excited to have partnered with the Wings for Life foundation, an initiative by Red Bull to raise funds for spinal cord research. You can help by participating in the Adelaide Run App on 6 May 2018, we’d love to see you out there!
On a personal note, Scott represented Australia at the World Paratriathlon Championships in Rotterdam and continues to chase his goal to participate in the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast April 2018.
A huge big thanks to all our family, friends and supporters that make all this possible.
Bring on 2018, we think it’s going to be BIG!
